PREPARATION BEGINS AT HOME

Before you can use the system, you must freeze the cooling caps and cooling elements at home at a minimum of minus 18 degrees Celsius.

You should expect this to take at least 48 hours in a standard household freezer. Plan for two drawers or two shelves in the freezer. The cooling caps must always be frozen in the reusable plastic bags in which they are supplied.

When you go for treatment, pack the cool bag directly from the freezer: Place the cooling cap sets in individual sets so that you can easily grab a new set when you need to change the cooling cap at the hospital. Place the cooling elements on top of the cool bag and check that it is correctly closed. Pack the remaining parts in one of the black bags provided, as well as a towel to place over your shoulders if your hair needs to be wet.

THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT IN THE HOSPITAL

Arrive in good time for your treatment so you can prepare without stress. Report your arrival to the staff and let them know that you are using cold caps. It's always good when everyone is prepared.

You must put on your first set of cold caps 30 minutes before the start of chemotherapy. Your hair thickness determines the time. PLEASE NOTE: If you have thick hair, Afro hair, or Asian hair, the first set of cold caps must be put on 45 minutes before the start of chemotherapy.

THEN USE THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS

  • 1. Find a good place for preparation. The patient restroom or the waiting room are usually good places.

    2. Wet your scalp. Dampen all the hair on your scalp with the water sprayer. Moisture conducts cold and optimizes the effect of the cooling cap.

    3. Put on the thin swimming cap. It maintains moisture on the scalp. If you have long hair, it should hang loosely under the cap.

    4. Put on the first cooling cap set. It must be put on 30 minutes before your chemo infusion. If you have very thick hair, choose 45 minutes. If you have long hair, it should hang loosely under the cap. Do not tuck it under the cap! Pull the cap down over your eyebrows. The cap must fit smoothly without air pockets.

  • 5. After 30 minutes, switch to a new set of cold caps.
Take the new ones out of the cooler bag while still wearing the old ones. Remove the used cold caps and switch to a new set without unnecessary delay. The swimming cap should remain on.

    6. Repeat the change at 30-minute intervals during the chemo infusion and continue cooling for at least 120 minutes after the chemo infusion ends.

    7. Now let your hair air dry. Allow your scalp and hair to rest for the next 3 days.

    8. After use, take everything home for refreezing, and you'll be ready for next time.

  • "Using cold caps during my chemotherapy has meant everything to me. I'm so grateful that it has given me the ability to choose who knows what I'm going through, because you can't tell I'm sick just by looking at me."

    Pernille, 39 years old
